Need to de-stress, revitalize, or energize yourself after a month long hectic work schedule? Head for the nearest beauty salon. Better still, head for a spa. But what if you can get the same experience in the comfort of your home? To see how, read the article below.
The word “spa” is a Latin acronym for salus per aquam meaning ‘health from water’. The philosophy behind the spa is that total well-being of the body can be attained by focusing on three key things - wellness, fitness both physical and mental, and relaxation. Spas are only just catching on in India and are often very expensive. Here is how you can create an aromatherapy spa at home.
For a whole body spa
To begin make sure your bathroom décor is “spa-worthy”. A bathroom with pastel coloured walls is ideal. Pastel shades are relaxing. If that is not an option select light, pleasing shower curtains for your bathroom spa. A few aromatherapy candles can add to the ‘ambience’ of your spa. Next you need to prepare your bath with some essential oils. Lavender, chamomile, ylang-ylang, sandalwood, sage, rosewood and cedar wood are all essences that relax your body and calm your mind. If you want to feel refreshed, use lime, spearmint, lemon grass, or orange essential oils. Select the one you like the most. Turn out the lights and soak into your bath. Add a bit of soothing music to your routine and there! You have a spa as good as any professional one.
For a quick relaxing spa
If you do not have time for a whole body spa, a simple foot soak will give you the necessary relaxation. Fill a small tub that can accommodate your feet with warm water. Place a few marbles in it and add half a cup of Epsom salts along with a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Soak your feet in the water and roll your feet over the marbles. This gives your tired feet an essential massage and you feel rejuvenated. Scrub your feet to get rid of dead cells and end with the application of a moisturizing cream.
While you are relaxing your body and your feet, why leave out your face? Place cucumber slices on your eyes to soothe them while you soak. Apply a face pack made of one mashed ripe banana mixed with one teaspoon each of honey and curd. This moisturizes your face during your home spa treatment.
Most people try to detoxify through diets, drinking plenty of water, exercise and more but a spa is the most natural way to detoxify and cleanse your entire system. A home spa treatment can mean much more than this.
Do you avoid spas because they are expensive and take too much effort to reach? Or do you think nothing beats the real thing? What’s your home spa treatment menu? Tell us all about it!
